16 September 2008 Porsche has revealed a teaser image of its first ever four-door saloon car – the Porsche Panamera. Pictured alongside a fleet of Porsche sportscars - including the Boxster - the new Porsche Panamera’s nose is exposed, giving a tantalising glimpse of the German car maker’s 911-style saloon. The new Porsche Panamera is a four-seat low slung saloon car with a coupe roofline – like the award-winning Mercedes-Benz CLS – and will be based on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne SUV. The new Panamera claims to offer “sports car technology in the premium class” and is said to combine “dynamic driving quality with superior comfort and interior accommodation for four adults” – making the new saloon a sporty Grand Tourer. Porsche has not revealed details of the Panamera’s engine range, but expect to find uprated versions of Porsche’s entry-level 3.6-litre engine developing 300bhp, right up to the range-topping turbocharged 4.8-litre V8 – with 500bhp. The Porsche Panamera will make its debut in 2009, and will compete against the upcoming BMW Gran Turismo CS Concept and the new four-door Aston Martin Rapide. Porsche is also reportedly considering a hybrid variant of the Porsche Panamera, and although the Panamera is a first for the Stuttgart-based car maker, it promises to be a great driver’s car.
