Peugeot's new electric car revealed
08 September 2009
Peugeot has announced plans to launch a new electric car before the end of 2010.
The Peugeot I0n will be fully electric, emit no CO2 and will be exempt from road tax.
It's based on Mitsubishi's i-Miev, produces 64bhp and has a maximum speed of 80mph.
The I0n will also have a range of 80 miles before its lithium-ion batteries will need recharging, so expect it to be a popular buy for city drivers.
It will take six hours to fully recharge from a mains power supply, or 30 minutes using its fast charging system to an 80 per cent recharge.
A "localised communication unit" in the I0n can make calls to emergency services and records information such as time of an accident, battery status, distance covered and distance to travel before maintenance is due.

It’s not the first fully electric car for Peugeot - the 106 Electric was produced between 1995 and 2003 and Peugeot claims to have sold the most electric vehicles in the world.
Full details and pricing for the Peugeot I0n have yet to be announced, but expect it to share features with the Mitsubishi I-Miev.
The I-Miev will cost around £20,000 to £25,000 when it goes on sale in November.
Last week Peugeot, Mitsubishi and Citroen all signed a deal to develop cars based on the I-Miev, so expect a similar model in Citroen's range. Read Auto Trader's review of the standard Mitsubishi i.
The Peugeot I0n will premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week and will go on sale before the end of 2010.
