Mercedes Fascination concept: next E-Class?
|
15 September 2008 Mercedes has unveiled a daring new concept car called the Fascination, which previews how future generations of E-class could look. The Mercedes Fascination has a ‘shooting brake’ body style – a cross between an estate car and a tapered coupe. View our Mercedes Fascination slide show Mercedes claims its designers have been given minimal constraints and were allowed to create, “an automotive sculpture with great aesthetic appeal” whilst creating the Mercedes Fascination concept. It will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. The strong lines of the car, which include pronounced swage lines down its sides and bold rear wheelarches, are claimed to make the car look like it’s moving even when it’s stationary. In a nod to traditional Mercedes coupe models the side windows are can all be dropped fully, and there are no B-pillars - the upright sections between the side windows. As well as its interesting new design it also features an important new engine for Mercedes – an ultra-efficient diesel. The 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine will produce 204bhp while emissions will be kept low by technology called BlueTEC and AdBlue, which adds a chemical to exhaust gases reducing levels of carbon dioxide and other harmful substances. Materials used for the interior of the car are inspired by the world of equestrianism, with the seat being inspired by a leather saddle. There are even two compartments housing binoculars and a digital camera - perfect for a day at the races. Wood, leather and aluminium feature heavily inside the Fascination concept, which has four individual seats in place of the more common two front seats and rear bench.
