May was month of motoring madness as a 260mph Swiss supercar was announced and DJ Chris Evans forked out a few million quid on a Ferrari.

Chris Evans spends £5.6 million on a Ferrari

Anyone who saw Chris Evans on Top Gear would know the guy loves his cars and that he’s not short of a few bob.

But in May, no-one was expecting the former Big Breakfast star to fork out £5.6 million on a Ferrari – but then again it wasn’t any old Ferrari.

Evans bought a 1962 Ferrari 205 GT SWB California Spider which previously belonged to the late Hollywood star James Coburn.

Ferrari announce new California convertible

Those without Chris Evans’ spare millions, but still with a few spare quid could still get their hands on a Ferrari with the word California in its name when the Italian car maker announced first details of a new convertible.

The £143,000 Ferrari California is the first car from the Maranello manufacturer to have an electrically-folding metal roof which opens or shuts in 15 seconds.

With a 4.3-litre V8 engine and 460bhp, the California will accelerate from 0-62mph in 4 seconds and hit 190mph.

Weber announce 260mph sports car

Switzerland isn’t exactly known for its tolerance of fast cars so it was a surprise when little-known car maker Weber revealed plans to build the ‘Faster One.’

Using a twin-turbocharged 7-litre V8 engine, the interesting looking Faster One develops 900bhp and 774lb/ft of pulling power.

As a result, Weber claim the Faster One will accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and reach 260mph – but it will set you back around £1 million.

Pink Floyd drummer’s Audi for sale

Pink Floyd legend Nick Mason loves his cars, counting a Ferrari Enzo among his collection, but he got rid of one of his Q cars on Auto Trader in May – an Audi RS6 Avant.

His 2004 Audi was one of just 999 RS6 Avant Specials built, which meant the 480bhp estate’s limiter had been removed – increasing the top speed from 155mph to 175mph.

The RS6, which cost £70,000 new was for sale on Auto Trader for £39,950.

Electric Range Rover

Liberty Electric Cars announced it will design and manufacture an electric drivetrain which will give a Range Rover a distance of 200 miles between charges.

This will make it exempt from the London Congestion Charge and allow free parking in Westminster.

The problem, however, is it was announced pre-financial meltdown and with a price-tag of between £95,000 and £120,000.

Cadillac CTS-V Nürbürgring shock

American sports cars are well known for their speed in a straight line, but also not renowned for their handling prowess.

So when the 550bhp Cadillac CTS-V four-door saloon was announced, no-one really batted an eye-lid at it.

Then it lapped the Nürbürgring race track in Germany in a phenomenal 7 minutes 59 seconds – making it one of the fastest cars round the infamous ‘Green Hell’.

And it’s going to cost less than £50,000.
