On the back of Wednesday’s shock new shot, Lamborghini has released another glimpse of its new car.

Earlier this week we speculated the new Lamborghini could be anything from an entry-level Audi R8 rival to a performance off-roader.

But the latest shot of a wheel and top of a sloping bonnet suggests Lamborghini is building a four-door super-saloon to go up against the forthcoming Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide and already-on-sale Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

The picture also suggests a carbon fibre front spoiler while the left of the photo shows front lights which are similar to the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago supercars.

If it turns out to be a four-door super-saloon it’s likely Lamborghini will use the underpinnings from theAudi A8 to keep costs down.

The engine would be front-mounted V8 or V12 developing in excess of 500bhp and giving the new car a top speed touching 200mph.

This is the second time in a week Lamborghini has released a sneak peak of its next car so expect more to surface as it gets closer to the full announcement on October 1.

Lamborghini is set to wow the crowds at next month’s Paris Motor Show with a brand new ultra-secretive model.

The Italian car maker has provided a very small glimpse of the new machine’s rear with the phrase ‘It’s not just a new Lamborghini. It’s a new world.’

The shot appears to show a huge centrally-mounted twin exhaust which is surrounded by swaths of ultra-light carbon fibre.

With the prospect of a whole new model, the rumour mill is bound to be buzzing with petrolheads eager to guess what Lamborghini is likely to reveal.

Could the Italian supercar maker be planning a new entry-level supercar to sit beneath the Gallardo to go up against the likes of the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R?

Or maybe go a level above the 211mph Murcielago and build a million pound marvel to rival the Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX-R and recently announced Aston Martin One-77.

But the most interesting part of the brief image is the large amount of ground clearance visible – something not seen with a supercar.

Could Lamborghini be building the ultimate performance off-roader to decimate the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and BMW X6?

If so, it could become the second Lamborghini 4x4, after the LM002, which was built between 1986 and 1992 and was nicknamed the Rambo Lambo.

The one sure thing is it will be a spectacular machine. Recent Lamborghini’s unveiled at motor shows including the 202mph Gallardo LP560-4 and £800,000 Lamborghini Reventon.
