Hot-hatch Renault Megane details announced
15 October 2009
Renault’s new Megane will be available with a 247bhp turbocharged Renaultsport version.
The hot hatch will come with a 2.0-litre engine that will send the Megane to 62mph in 6.1 seconds and offers a raft of improvements over the old Megane F1 Team R26.
It benefits from a range of features that enhance its sporting nature and 25 percent of the engine components are new and improved.
The styling is based on the new Megane Coupe, but with several key enhancements.
It features wide wheelarches to accommodate 18- or 19-inch alloys, a rear spoiler and centrally-mounted exhaust, a restyled front bumper and daytime running lights.
Inside it offers more supportive seats, aluminium pedals and grey and yellow upholstery.
There are also several performance-related tweaks to the standard car, such as the inclusion of a three-stage stability-control ESP system.
It also upgrades the suspension and damper systems.
As with many Renaultsport models the Megane comes with the choice of two different chassis set-ups.
The Cup chassis is aimed at the more enthusiastic track driver, and has a limited slip differential and stiffer suspension than the standard Sport option.
The 247bhp engine offers 251lb/ft of pulling power, but still limits its fuel consumption to 33.6mpg and manages a respectable CO2 emissions figure of 195g/km.
