Geneva Motor Show 2008

Geneva Motor Show 2008 - News image
Dishing out 552bhp and weighing 20kg less, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 will hit 62mph in 3.7 seconds and go all the way to 201mph.

04 March 2008

Modified McLaren SLRs, a luscious new Lamborghini and a Ferrari named Stallone – there’s no shortage of supercars in Geneva.

Adrian Hearn and Stuart Milne look at the sleekest dream machines on show in Switzerland.

Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster

It’s bright white, has gullwing doors and a 5.4-litre V8 engine chucking out 650bhp – there’s very little not to love about the Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster. But the bit we’re loving the most about this after-market tuned monster is it comes with a Brabus-tuned Smart Fortwo city car with matching paintwork and interior as part of the deal.

The bit we’re not loving as much is the £535,000 price-tag for the pair. But if you’ve got a 17-year-old, keep the SLR for yourself and give the teenager the Smart to learn in.

Aston Martin Vantage RS

Okay, so the Vantage may be the baby Aston normally, but give it some more power and it will out-muscle its big brother the Aston Martin DBS. In the case of the Aston Martin Vantage RS, the engineers have shoehorned the DBS’ V12 engine and upped power from 510bhp to 600bhp – and fitted some sexy wheels and a body kit.

The result made us weak-kneed. In normal guise it’s the best looking, most-balanced Aston. After the tweaks, it’s even better.

KTM X-Bow

K. T. M. Three letters to make many a motorcyclist moist at the mouth.

The X-Bow represents the fruits of the company's labour in producing its first car. We've seen the car before, but this version is the one that'll be hitting the showrooms soon.

It looks sensational, and will find homes with track day junkies who find Seven replicas a little too common – and the Arial Atom too hardcore.

The X-Bow Dallara edition will have a limited production run of just 100 cars, and with its 240bhp Audi engine, the 700kg carbon fibre missile will reach 62mph from rest in just 3.9 seconds.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4

Lamborghinis are the ultimate poser’s car – beautiful, loud aggressive and fiercely-quick.  And with the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, they’ve made their baby Lambo that little bit better.

Dishing out 552bhp and weighing 20kg less, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 will hit 62mph in 3.7 seconds and go all the way to 201mph – which is nice in a I-want-to-go-to-prison way. But with the LP 560-4 it’s the different rear lights and the Reventon-like front bumper which helps yield the attention.

Just a shame it doesn’t have the scissor-opening doors you get on its big brother, the Murcielago. If it did, it would be arguably the sexiest motor on show today.

Lexus LF-A Roadster

When the first pictures of the Lexus LF-A Roadster landed on the Auto Trader news desk, we couldn't believe how stunning the two-seat drop-top was.

And it looks even better in the flesh.

Lexus says the LF-A is powered by a 5-litre V10 powerplant, powering the 500bhp stunner to the scary side of 200mph.

Mansory Ferrari 599 Stallone

If you name a car Stallone, you mean business. And that aggressive intent is backed up by this bonkers Ferrari 599, modified by Mansory. With a six-litre engine churning 720bhp, the Rambo, I mean Stallone will hit more than 215mph.

From the striking line which runs down the bonnet to the 21-inch rear alloys and centrally-mounted exhaust, the Mansory Ferrari 599 Stallone looks and means the part.

They don’t say how much you’ll need to pay for a Stallone, but it’s likely to be a case of if you need to ask, you can’t afford it. But we’d venture a guess at a sly £250,000.

Nissan GT-R

The Geneva Motor Show was our first chance to clamp eyes on the astonishing Nissan GT-R. It looks sensational, and Nissan even brought a cutaway to show the crowds how its oily bits look.

As far as we're concerned, the GT-R is shaping up to be the car to beat in 2008 and beyond – and it's incredible value too, with today's announcement of the Nissan GT-R costing just £52,000.

Early reports say it's faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo – which is almost twice the price – thanks to a computer powerhouse linking the 473bhp engine to all four wheels.

Pagani Zonda F

No European Motor Show would be complete without the incredible Pagani Zonda. Its Buck Rogers looks have been enhanced for Geneva with some scorching orange paint contrasting with the Zonda's signature carbon fibre.

The 600bhp Zonda F debuted in Geneva a few years ago, sporting a reworked carbon fibre chassis and more power.

But almost a decade after the supercar originally launched, it's still simply sensational; something several UK buyers found after two Pagani Zonda's appeared for sale on Auto Trader.
