These are the first official pictures of the 2009 Vauxhall Insignia, which will make its world debut at October’s Paris Motor Show.

Known as the ‘Sports Tourer’, the Estate is the third Vauxhall Insignia variant, following the recently unveiled saloon and hatch models at the recent British Motor Show.

Replacing the outgoing Vectra, the new Insignia Sports Tourer will be available with a choice of seven engines including three 2-litre diesel plants producing 110, 130 and 160bhp respectively with the latter achieving a claimed 58.9mpg on long motorway runs.

The Insignia Estate is also available with Vauxhall’s new ecoFLEX low emission diesel engine based on the 160bhp model.

Vauxhall hasn’t released any emission of fuel economy figures for the ecoFLEX Insignia which will be trying to take sales from the Ford Mondeo Econetic and Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion.

The Insignia Sports Tourer also gets the new range-topping 2.8-litre V6 petrol engine which develops 255bhp, enabling the all-wheel drive super-estate to accelerate from 0-60mph in a hot hatch-rivalling 6.7 seconds.

It will also feature Vauxhall’s new Adaptive Forward Lighting system which can read and memorise road signs to alert drivers if they are speeding or veering off the road.

While sharing the same wheelbase as the saloon and hatchback models, the Insignia Sports Tourer has unique bodywork after the car’s B-pillars.

Vauxhall claims the 2009 Insignia Estate will be have one of the best loadspaces in its class with full dimensions to be released at a later date.

The Vauxhall Insignia Sport Tourer will make its world debut at October’s Paris Motor Show before going on sale in the second quarter of 2009.
