28 July 2008 A rare BMW Z1 previously owned by former Ferrari F1 racing driver Eddie Irvine is for sale on Auto Trader. Eddie Irvine was the first owner of this rare BMW Z1, and bought the two-seat roadster brand new in 1991. The left-hand-drive BMW Z1 – of which just 8,000 models were produced – was Eddie Irvine’s car throughout the 1990s, as the straight-talking racing driver shot to fame. The Irish-born racing driver nearly won the 1999 F1 championship after Michael Schumacher broke his leg, but was pipped to the finishing post by title rival Mika Hakkinen in the last round. Eddie also appears in the Sunday Times Rich List as the 644th richest person in the world, with a fortune totalling £120 million. And this massive fortune has allowed Irvine his pick of the world’s rarest cars, including this BMW Z1. The BMW Z1 shares many of its parts with the BMW 325i built between 1983 and 1990, and features unusual doors which fold down into the car’s body. Eddie’s old BMW Z1 is a completely standard car and is one of the last Z1s to roll off the production line. In June 2007 an Aston Martin DB9 previously owned by Eddie Jordan – Eddie Irvine’s old boss at Jordan – was for sale on the site, while in March this year Jordan’s old Morgan Plus 4 was advertised. A Ferrari F40 previously owned by four-time F1 champion Alain Prost appeared on the site last year, which was given to him as a gift when he signed for Ferrari in 1989. And Auto Trader has also featured cars owned by British F1 drivers Martin Brundle – who owned a BMW M5 – and F1 champion Damon Hill. Want to see more of BMW?
