Bugatti Veyron driver fined for doing 97mph
03 June 2008 The driver of an £875,000 Bugatti Veyron sports car has been fined for speeding after being spotted driving at speed alongside a Ferrari, police said today. At 9.20am last Sunday, June 1, the Bugatti Veyron was recorded by a police officer driving at 97mph on the M27 eastbound at junction nine near Fareham, Hants, The officer followed the Bugatti Veyron which has a top speed of 253mph and indicated to the driver to pull over at a safe place. The driver of the Bugatti Veyron was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £60 and three points on his license, according to Hampshire police. But the Ferrari 599 GTB, which has a top speed of 205mph, was not seen by police and was not stopped. His wife, Mel, added: "We were in hysterics when we saw the Bugatti had been stopped. "The policeman had a furious look that suggested the driver was in trouble." Inspector Beth Pirie said: "Hampshire Constabulary's Roads Policing Unit regularly carries out proactive patrols along its strategic road network to ensure the safety of all motorists. "Driving at excessive speed not only increases the risk of being involved in a collision, it also increases the chances that you will receive serious or fatal injuries as a result." |
