Holy smokes Batman – the Batmobile’s got a parking ticket!

A traffic warden has ticketed one of the most famous cars in the world: the custom-built 2.5-tonne Batmobile.

The stunning Batmobile was parked outside the GMTV headquarters yesterday morning to celebrate the launch of Batman film The Dark Knight on DVD.

Nicknamed ‘The Tumbler’, the Batmobile features in 2008’s summer blockbuster The Dark Knight and made its debut in 2005’s Batman Begins.

The custom-built Batmobile, driven by Christian Bale who plays Batman, is an ex-military vehicle which uses a 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 engine.

Power figures haven’t been revealed, but the massive V8 engine has enough power to accelerate the ‘Tumbler’ from 0-62mph in around five seconds – quicker than a Porsche Boxster S.

And this new Batmobile has another party trick up its sleeve – it can actually JUMP up to 18 metres using its truck parts and six 37-inch wheels.

The Tumbler also made a cameo appearance at Silverstone racetrack earlier this year, racing alongside a Toyota F1 car as part of the film’s promotion.

The Dark Knight has already gone on to break records – in its opening weekend the film pulled in more than $155 million, smashing the record held by Spider-Man 3, and raked in $300 million in its first two weeks. The DVD is also one of Play.com’s most pre-ordered DVDs.

The Dark Knight also controversially topped the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) top 100 film list on its launch, surpassing the mafia crime epic The Godfather.

The late Heath Ledger, who plays ‘The Joker’ in the new film, has also been tipped for a posthumous Oscar nomination for his portrayal as Batman’s arch nemesis.
