This is the all-new Ferrari California – the latest grand tourer from the Italian supercar maker.

The Ferrari California will be available exclusively as a convertible with an electronically-operated roof and uses a new 4.3-litre V8 engine producing 450bhp.

This means the Ferrari California will accelerate from 0-62mph (100km/h) in less than 4 seconds before reaching a speed of nearly 200mph.

And the Ferrari California will also be fitted with the F1 traction control system which made its debut in the Ferrari 599 GTB, a car regarded by many as the world’s finest GT car.

Ferraris break world record

Other features on the Maranello supercar include a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.

These images show the Ferrari California’s interior will be adorned in brown leather with a large infotainment system placed in the centre console.

Carbon dioxide emissions of 310g/km also make it the greenest ever Ferrari - although you'll still find yourself paying £400 a year to tax it.

These are the first details of the Ferrari California after the Italian car maker secretively revealed last week it would be building a new GT to be unveiled on the web first.

When it goes on sale in 2009, the Ferrari California will sit alongside the Ferrari F430, 599 and 612 Scaglietti in the Italian car maker’s range.

We’d anticipated prices to start at around £140,000 pitching it up against the Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and the super-exclusive Alfa 8C Spider.

More details of the Italian GT will be revealed over the forthcoming weeks with the California making its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
