Volvo XC90 gets R-appeal
14 January 2008 The Volvo XC90 can now be given a sporty makeover thanks to an official R-Design package unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. The extra kit includes dual exhaust pipes, skid-plate, R-Design logos, silver door mirrors and deleted roof rails, which add to the sporting demeanour of the hot Volvo SUV. Extra aggression has been added with 19-inch wheels now fitted as standard, with a 20-inch upgrade option. The package is a further development of the XC90 Sport model which was introduced in autumn 2006 and retains the sport chassis, detailing in a silk matt finish, sill mouldings in brushed stainless steel and instrument dials with metal chronograph watch-style faces with blue lighting. The interior is similarly sporty with contrasting black and cream leather sports seats with extra cushioning to hold the occupants in place during cornering and an R-Design logo embossed on the backrest. A sports, perforated-leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals, aluminium centre dashboard stack and door inlays, gear stick and sports floor mats complete the cabin changes. The R-Design package is also available on the Volvo C30, S40 and V50. Features include a colour matched body kit, rear roof spoiler, silver matt finish front grille and wing mirrors, two-tone black and cream leather interiors and 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels. Volvo design director Steve Mattin, said: R-Design is entirely in line with the accelerated focus on making our cars more extrovert and emotional. It gives buyers the opportunity to spice up the already distinct personality of these models. |
