Free road tax for green Polo

Fancy a new car without paying tax? Volkswagen has the answer. The Polo BlueMotion will be the only diesel engined car to fall into the tax-exempt A band when it is launched in October. Its emissions of just 99g/km are thanks to an advanced 1.4-litre, three cylinder turbo diesel and the entry level BlueMotion 1 model can manage an astonishing 74.3mpg. A higher-spec BlueMotion 2 is also available with air-con, rain sensing windscreen wipers, but returns slightly fewer miles per gallon. But despite the Polo's green credentials, it still offers respectable performance. The BlueMotion will accelerate to 62mph in 12.8 seconds, before hitting a maximum speed of 109mph.
