Vauxhall has released these tantalising teaser images which give us the first clue to how the forthcoming Vauxhall Astra will look.

With a design based on the well-received Vauxhall Insignia saloon, the next-generation Vauxhall Astra should be the best looking hatchback to come out of Luton.

The sculpted swage lines starting at the front wings of the Vauxhall Insignia and swooping along its flanks will also be a strong design feature of the new Vauxhall Astra.

Vauxhall claims the Astra will also feature an all-new engine line-up.

Its new motors will maximise low-down pulling power and adopt fuel saving technologies seen in the Insignia to provide better economy than the outgoing Astra.

A new interior will also mimic the Insignia’s new style direction, with a wrap-around dashboard which flows onto the door trims to cocoon the front occupants.
