New technology will be featured under the skin of the Vauxhall Insignia to make it the most advanced Vauxhall saloon ever. Four-wheel-drive will be available along with active suspension and all the latest engine and safety know-how.
The UK will be the cars largest market and a significant part of the Insignia’s design has been carried out at the Millbrook testing facility in Bedfordshire, as well as on Britain’s roads.
Its design is fresh and carries over few styling features from the Vauxhall Vectra or any other Vauxhall model, instead paving the way for a new generation of Vauxhalls.
These pictures show the four-door saloon, but a five door hatch and an estate will also be in the line-up.
The roofline swoops rearwards, echoing a premium coupe and the flanks of the car are defined by a dropping crease which is original and gives the Insignia a sporting stance.
Inside, Vauxhall claims there are new levels of quality for the brand, featuring ambient cabin lighting, specially designed ergonomic seats and a dashboard which sweeps around to continue onto the doors.
Five engines will be available at launch, with three petrol engines ranging from 140bhp to 260bhp and two diesels with 130bhp and 160bhp.
And, the Insignia will be the first Vauxhall saloon since the Cavalier to be offered with four-wheel-drive. The ‘adaptive 4x4’ will send power to the front wheels in normal driving and send power to any wheel which loses grip.
The Insignia is officially launched at the British International Motor Show on July 22, at London’s ExCeL and will take centre stage on the Vauxhall stand.
