05 December 2007 Vauxhall has announced a new Astra VXR with a racey livery and a list of any good petrolheads must-have features - all inspired by the Nurburgring. The Astra VXR Nurburgring edition comes with an exclusive all-white paint job and white 18-inch alloy wheels manufactured from lightweight material. Those wheels are shod in bespoke Dunlop tyres designed to offer the car maximum grip. The Nurburgring edition celebrates the infamous 13 mile long Nordschleife circuit in Germany, where many carmakers including Vauxhall test the handling and durability of their car’s performance to the limit. Black carbon-effect mirrors, dark tinted glass and distinctive chequered flag body graphics mark the Astra VXR Nurburgring out as a hatch with performance included. Inside, the doors and fascia get a retrim in racing car-style carbon fibre, while the Recaro sports front seats are trimmed in leather with a map of the Nurburgring embossed onto the backrests. An individually numbered plaque showing the cars build number brings attention to this cars limited production run. The engine remains unchanged, pumping out 237bhp and accelerating the Astra from 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds. It stops accelerating at its electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Each UK car comes fitted with a Remus sports exhaust, developed in coordination with Triple-Eight Race Engineering – the outfit running Vauxhall’s British Touring Car Championship racing team. Like the standard Astra VXR, a six-speed gearbox is fitted along with uprated suspension honed at the ‘Ring along with consultation from Lotus. Brakes with large 321mm diameter discs fitted at the front and 278mm discs at the rear are clamped by distinctive blue callipers. The Vauxhall Astra VXR Nurburgring edition is on sale now for £20,995. |
