Subaru has unveiled its all-new Impreza at the New York Motor Show and we’ve got the first official pictures.

The third generation of the Impreza will be available as a five-door hatchback for the first time, as well as the more familiar four-door saloon.

Subaru has redesigned the chassis, body and drivetrain with ride improved by the Subaru Symmetrical All-wheel-drive system.

With similar looks to the Mazda 3, the Impreza hatch will be available with three engines – an entry-level 1.5-litre petrol, 2-litre turbo and the range-topping 2.5 STi.

Performance for the hot STi model will be similar to the current model meaning a 0-60mph time of just 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 145mph.

Expect the entry-level 1.5 model to accelerate from 0-60mph in 13.5 seconds and have a top speed of around 110mph with a combined fuel economy of 36mpg.

And while the Impreza will offer blistering performance, practicality is also improved, with the all-new double wishbone suspension making a wider and deeper boot – with the four-door model capable of carrying three large golf bags.

Expect prices for the new Impreza – which will go on sale later this summer – to start at around £12,500 for the 1.5 model rising to £25,000 for the top-end STi.
