Man Utd stars taught about 'terror on tarmac'

18 January 2007 The Wayne Rooneys of tomorrow are getting a crash course in how to deal with the dangers of driving flash cars on Britain's roads. Former police and VIP driving instructor Adrian Shurmer has been advising youngsters at Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers on what he describes as ‘terror on the tarmac.’ With young professionals earning more money and driving desirable cars, Mr Shurmer claims they are at a greater risk from criminals. He said: “These guys drive expensive cars, wear flash jewellery and have familiar faces. “They’ve got to leave a six-foot gap in front of them in traffic and fast-flowing roads to prevent being targeted by thieves. “It’s very similar to being on the football field. You should always have space, command the road and NEVER trust the opposition.” But Shurmer is adamant he is NOT an instructor. “I never instruct anybody. I never tell them when to brake, or to put two hands on the steering wheel. I advise them on how to think. “It’s all about getting through to the youngsters. If you can sort out the mind, the physical will sort itself out.” Links Auto Trader Links Fabien Barthez's Mercedes |
