Porsche 911 voted most desirable 80’s car
|
27 March 2008 In a new survey the Porsche 911 has been declared the ultimate 80’s car – just ahead of the Audi Quattro. The Audi Quattro has had a boost in desirability, thanks to the hit BBC TV series Ashes to Ashes, which draws to a close tonight. In the show it is hand-brake turned onto the screen by 80’s copper, Gene Hunt – but it still fell just behind the iconic Porsche 911 sports car in the HPI survey. View our coolest cars of the 80's slideshow Well behind the 29 per cent and 28 per cent scored by the Quattro and 911 was the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and BMW M5 with 15 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. The HPI survey also asked respondents which cars they most fondly remembered from the decade and another TV car – the Ford Capri SLE 71R – driven by Terry McCann in Minder was a runaway winner with 30 per cent of votes. Less than half as many (11 per cent) voted for the second most fondly remembered, the Jaguar XJS driven by TV boss Arthur Daly. When asked which car was the most memorable, the public chose the Ferrari Testarossa from the US hit TV show Miami Vice with 26 per cent of the votes. The DeLorean DMC-12 from the classic film Back to the Future was second with 23 per cent, while Magnum PI’s Ferrari 308 rounded up a closely fought top three with 21 per cent. A rather less glamorous vehicle took the fifth spot – even though it only had three wheels - the Reliant Regal driven by Del Trotter in Only Fools and Horses was a popular choice. The Results: What would be your dream 80’s car? Porsche 911 29% Which 80's car do you most remember? Ford Capri SLE 71R (Terry McCann - Minder) 30% |
