Wraps off new Porsche Panamera
20 April 2009
The hotly-anticipated Porsche Panamera has made its world debut at the Shanghai Motor Show.
The Panamera is Porsche’s first four-door super-saloon with customers getting the choice of three models to choose from – the S, 4S and range-topping Turbo.
With 500bhp on tap, the Turbo is capable of 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 188mph.
The Panamera will go up against the likes of the Audi S8, Maserati Quattroporte GTS and, from next year, the Aston Martin Rapide.
Using Shanghai to showcase its first super-saloon is a clever move by Porsche who will get maximum coverage as a result of few noticeable debuts at the show.
It is also recognition of China’s economic growth with Porsche viewing the giant nation as a key player in the global car market.
Last month a record 1.1 million new cars were sold in China, making it the world’s second largest car market behind the USA. The UK has seen sales plummet 44.9 per cent this year.
Prices for the Panamera start at £72,266 for the entry level S, rising to £77,269 for the 4S and £95,298 for the range-topping Turbo.
The Panamera goes on sale in September.
