Peugeot 308 averages record-breaking 90mpg
22 May 2008
A Peugeot 308 HDi has averaged a staggering 90mpg on a 9,000 mile road trip around Australia, securing a place in the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records.
The Peugeot 308 HDi also managed to travel 1,192 miles on a single 60-litre tank of diesel.
With such economical motoring, drivers John and Helen Taylor could have driven the length of Britain without ever stopping for a top-up.
It took the husband and wife team 25 days to complete the mammoth task.
They said: “We were very aware of the strong environmental credentials of the 308 before we set out.
“But we had no idea it would be such a record breaker.”
A Peugeot spokesperson said: “The feat performed by John and his wife, Helen, in the 308 is outstanding.
“It proves the difference driving economically can make on both the environment and with the rising cost of fuel, your pocket.”
The Peugeot 308 HDi 90 and 110 models have carbon dioxide emissions of 120g/km, which places them in tax band B with an annual cost of £35.
At the start of the year the Peugeot 308 HDi 90 managed a 117-mile lap of the M25 London Orbital motorway using less than £10 of diesel.
Peugeot invest huge amounts into diesel technology – the Peugeot 908 HDi-FAP Le Mans racing car is at the forefront of diesel technology, its 5.5-litre V12 engine producing a huge 650bhp and 880lb/ft of pulling power.
