The facelifted Peugeot 407 will be available with a new 140bhp diesel engine when it goes on sale in September.

The Peugeot gives the 407 a more pronounced front with new air intakes while the inside on SE and GT models will feature a new ‘piano black’ finish which is applied to the door handle and air vents around the centre console.

Under the bonnet, buyers can opt for a new 140bhp diesel engine which accelerates the 407 from 0-62mph (100kph) in 9.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 129mph while averaging 49.5mpg.

The Mondeo-rivalling 407 will also be available with a new ‘SR’ trim which is the sits above the entry-level S trim in the line-up.

SR models get electronic stability programme, climate control, fog lights , all-round electrics, eight airbags, CD player, sat-nav, Bluetooth connectivity and 16-inch wheels as standard.

On sale in September, prices for the Peugeot 407 start from £17,995 for the 110bhp S model, rising to £25,295 for the range-topping V6 GT model with the new diesel costing from £18,295 to £20,295.

The 407 is also available as an estate, costing £1,200 more than its equivalently specced saloon model.
