The Mercedes CLC replaces the C-Class Sports Coupe, and will still use the outgoing model’s same chassis, but feature more than 1,100 new components. The Mercedes CLC gets the C-Class inspired front grille along with sharper and sportier bumpers and a redesigned tailgate. The interior has been revamped and features new dials and a large colour screen for Mercedes’ latest interior multimedia systems. An iPod, USB stick or other MP3 player can be connected to this system, linking it into the display and stereo speakers. Drivers now get Mercedes’ ‘direct-steer’ across the range, a system adjusting the sensitivity of the steering wheel according to the speed the CLC is travelling. The engine line-up incorporates two four-cylinder petrol engines with 143bhp and 184bhp respectively, and two four-cylinder diesel engines with 122bhp and 150bhp. Those looking for hotter performance can opt for one of the two V6 petrol engines on offer – a 2.4-litre with 204bhp or a 3.5-litre with 272bhp. All models are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Four-cylinder engines are also available with a five-speed automatic transmission. If you opt for a six-cylinder engine, Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission is an optional extra. Prices for the Mercedes CLC will start at around £20,000 when it goes on sale in July. |
