Motorexpo, London’s free car show opened its doors today in glorious sunshine on the capital’s dockland developments.

Canary Wharf – home to the UK’s tallest building – is playing host to Motorexpo with some of the world’s biggest car makers displaying their vehicles.

BMW is displaying the world’s first sports activity coupe – the BMW X6, which combines explosive power and off-road competence.

And the recently announced British sports car, the 400bhp Breckland Beira is making its world debut in East London.

Other car makers on show include Aston Martin, who is showing off the stunning Aston Martin DBS and DB9 Volante.

Volkswagen’s fastest ever accelerating production car, the Volkswagen Passat R36 is on show alongside the crazy-quick Touareg R50 performance 4x4.

Land Rover has taken over the landscaped gardens with its whole model range from the aggressive-looking Range Rover Sport and Freelander HST to the Land Rover Defender SVX.

Modified Range Rovers are also on show with Yorkshire-based tuners and bodywork specialists Project Kahn displaying two very bling 4x4s.

Other sexy cars on show include the 7-litre Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 Turbo and Pagani Zonda supercar.

The Motorexpo is now in its 13th year with more than 350,000 visitors attending the event last year.

It’s running until Sunday and is free to attend, and is just metres from Canary Wharf tube station on the Jubilee line.

And in September, Motorexpo’s managing director Graeme Carver is taking the show stateside to New York’s Lower Manhattan business district.

Motorexpo is a great pre-curser to the British Motor Show which opens its doors at the London’s Excel building on July 23.

We’ll be reporting live from the British Motor Show so don’t forget to come back for all the big news as it happens.
