Lamborghini Reventon Spyder at Frankfurt
10 September 2009
This is the Lamborghini Reventon Spyder which will be making its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Or is it?
Despite looking remarkably like a Lamborghini press image, the car maker has denied the pictures’ authenticity. But they would do, wouldn’t they?
Let’s weigh up the facts. Lamborghini has said it will reveal a new car at every major motor show it attends. This has included:
• Frankfurt 2007: Reventon
• Paris 2008: Estoque concept
• LA 2008: Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder
• Detroit 2009: Lamborghini personalisation programme (poor effort, but Detroit was a washout with most car makers)
• Geneva 2009: Murcielago LP670-SV
Rumours of a Reventon Spyder have been running for a while and it’s still a bit early for the Murcielago replacement to debut.

If the images do turn out to be accurate, expect the Reventon to be limited to 20 or fewer production models, powered a 6.5-litre V12 engine developing 650bhp.
With this sort of power, the Reventon Spyder should be capable of 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of around 210mph.
These figures are impressive but it’s the price which will be the biggest talking point.
With the Reventon costing £800,000 when it was launched, its topless sibling is likely to cost a cool £1 million, but despite the recession we reckon Lamborghini will have no problem shifting them.
Because, look at it…
Forget the recently announced McLaren MP4-12C, Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8 Spider and Mercedes SLS because they are mere supercars. This is a hypercar.
Expect the Lamborghini dealership in Dubai to be ringing off its hook when the Reventon Spyder debuts in Frankfurt next week.
