Geneva 2009 debut: Volvo S80
05 March 2009
The new Volvo S80 has taken centre stage on the Swedish car maker’s stand at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.
Going on sale in the summer, the new Volvo S80 will go up against the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 in the executive car sector.
First impressions of the S80 are good with Volvo fitting the motorway cruiser with a more distinctive grille and a range of chrome detailings.
The S80 gets Volvo’s new 2.4-litre diesel engine which develops 205bhp but will also average an impressive 45.6mpg.
Inside, the Volvo S80 gets new leather seats, steering wheel and upgraded instruments with an emphasis on comfort – all helping to give the S80 a classy image.
And Volvo is also offering the S80 with the car maker’s green badge – DRIVe – meaning a 1.6-litre diesel engine which Volvo expects to average 57.6mpg and emit just 129g/km of carbon dioxide.
As with the rest of the Volvo range, we’d expect the S80 to be superbly built, have a quality feel and boast excellent safety features – offering a good alternative to the more mainstream German models.
We’ll be driving the Volvo S80 in a couple of weeks so don’t forget to come back for our first verdict.
