Audi has unveiled the new TT RS at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show – and it’s as fast as the V8-powered Audi R8 supercar.
The RS-badged coupe is the most powerful TT ever housing a five-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 335bhp, 331lb/ft of pulling power and 234bhp per-tonne.
This means the Audi TT RS accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds – the same as the £77,000 4.2-litre V8-engined Audi R8 supercar.
The sensational new TT RS is only 13mph shy of the R8’s top speed. Audi says “for the fortunate few enjoying regular access to derestricted tarmac, the limit can be raised at extra cost to 174mph”.

But despite this prodigious power, the TT RS is said to return 30.7mpg on the combined cycle.
The new TT RS coupe is said to ‘revisit the spirit’ of the iconic Audi RS Quattro from the 1980s, which also featured a five-cylinder turbocharged engine, and is the first ‘modern-day Audi’ to wear the famous RS badge since.
The TT RS comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and the ‘Quattro’ four-wheel-drive system.
Audi has also engineered the new TT RS to sound like the early RS Quattros of the 1980s – Audi claims “each successive gear shift is enlivened by a sonorous soundtrack”, while the Sport button quickens the accelerator and makes the exhaust even louder.
The TT RS comes with massive 370mm brake discs and electronic stability control (ESP), and wears 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, with the option of 19 and 20-inch available.
The TT RS interior is finished ‘exclusively in black’ and features brushed aluminium inlays and aluminium footrests, with RS logos emblazoned across the ‘Silk Nappa’ leather sports seats.
The dash also features Audi’s Driver Information System with additional displays for boost pressure, oil temp and a lap timer ‘for circuit use’.
The Audi TT RS will be available to order from March 2009 and will cost £42,980 for the coupe and £44,880 for the convertible.
Also making its debut on the Audi stand is the new A4 Allroad Quattro.
