Ferrari has taken the wraps of a super-hardcore version of its 599 GTB Fiorano – the 599XX.

The aggressive-looking 599XX has been extensively re-engineered, turning it into a track-only animal.

Ferrari has taken the standard 6-litre V12 engine and increased power from 612 to 700bhp – making it more powerful than any production Prancing Horse.

Add in the extra-quick gearbox shifts, a reduction in weight and huge levels of downforce and you’ve got one quick track car.

Ferrari says the modifications have helped the 599XX lap the Fiorano test track in just 1 minute 17 seconds – nine seconds faster than the road-going 599.

And it’s only one second slower than the Enzo-based FXX, putting into context this car’s staggering track potential.

These times are set by professional racing drivers but Ferrari insists the 599XX still has the ergonomics of a standard 599 to ensure amateur drivers can get the most out of it on track.

Keeping down weight and improving stopping power are a set of full carbon ceramic brakes, housed behind a set of 19-inch alloys with slick tyres.

But here’s the bad news. It’s going to cost more than £1 million, it’s not road-legal and only those invited by Ferrari can own one – we’re sure Ferrari aficionado Jay Kay could do with some cheering up.

If you’re not in this exclusive group then Ferrari will still cater for you.

It has brought out a new performance pack for the road-going Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, the car Ronaldo was driving during a collision in a tunnel on the A538 near Manchester Airport.

The Ferrari 599 Handling GTE package consists of stiffer springs, lower ride, new exhaust silencer and specially optimised tyres for the car’s new 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

No prices as yet, but we’d expect the Ferrari 599 GTE to cost well in excess of £225,000.

If you can’t afford a Ferrari 599 GTE, a quick scour of Auto Trader showed up a 1989 Vauxhall Astra GTE for £2,595.
