To the max: Ford raises MPV bar again
17 September 2009
Parents of the world, this is the new Ford C-Max which has been wowing crowds at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Not really wowing – people tend to visit motor shows for the 200mph supercars rather than people carriers, but it’s one of the more important ‘real world’ cars on show.
And surprise, surprise it looks like every other Ford thanks to its ‘kinetic design philosophy’. Is anyone else getting annoyed with ‘brand identities’ yet?
But if it ain’t broke don’t fix it because the C-Max is actually a very handsome compact-MPV or MAV (multi-activity vehicle).

Expect it to handle like a hatchback, have a premium feel and raise the standard in the segment – this is what all Fords do these days.
The C-Max will be available with a range of new ‘EcoBoost’ petrol engines which are turbocharged petrol lumps boasting high fuel economy and low emissions – similar to VW’s TSi engines.
There will also be the usual TDCi engines and a plenty of trim levels to choose from.
It might seem a bit odd but if the C-Max turns out to be the cracker we expect, who really needs a Ford Focus now?
If you haven’t got kids then the Fiesta is the better choice and if you do have a couple of little ones then go for the more practical model while looks good and will still handle well.
The C-Max will go on sale with a seven-seat Grand C-Max towards the end of next year with prices expected to start from £16,500.
