Bentley Mulsanne in good-looking shock
15 September 2009
The Bentley Mulsanne has just had its official European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
And the shock is that the Arnage replacement is very impressive in the metal.
Bentley showcased the Mulsanne at the Pebble Beach Motor Show in August and the bland coloured car didn’t really steal the show as intended. The press shots, again in that dull hue, failed to entice us further.
But when you see the Mulsanne in powder blue on display in Germany it really grabs your attention.

For starters there’s the size – it’s absolutely epic. Measuring 5.56 metres in length and 1.92 metres across, the Mulsanne is slightly longer, but not as wide as the Ghost also making its debut in Frankfurt.
It’s far more imposing than the Ghost and rolls on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, but we’re still not convinced by the second cluster of lights which flank the car’s headlights.

The interior takes 170 hours to craft – that’s nearly half the Mulsanne’s production time so expect the finest leather and wood.
Bentley has fitted the Mulsanne with a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which develops 505bhp and, wait for it, 752lb/ft of pulling power which is delivered from just 1,800rpm.
There are no performance figures as yet, but with the massive torque delivered at such a low range expect it to be a stunningly relaxed motor with the ability to absolutely hammer it if you’re late for an important business meeting.
