Audi’s model range reached 7,896 at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the unveiling of the R8 Spyder.

Well maybe not that many but it’s certainly growing with the Spider Audi’s most expensive and exotic motor yet.

Costing from £111,995 for the manual and £117,155 for the Q Tronic semi-auto, the R8 Spyder gets the 5-litre V10 engine with Audi deciding against the 4.2-litre V8.

Boasting 515bhp, the convertible Audi is capable of 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds, 0-124mph in 12.7 seconds and a top speed of 194mph.

These figures put it right in the firing line of the Ferrari California and Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder – imagine the sound of these three with roofs down hammering it through a tunnel for a group test.

And it’s certainly getting some attention.

Even the brown model in the press pics looks good but in white, in the metal, the R8 Spyder is a tempting proposition for anyone thinking the Gallardo is too aggressive and the California too pretty.
