First details: Mitsubishi ‘Evo’ coupe concept
Mitsubishi has released the first sketches of its Evo X-related coupe – the Concept-RA.
But there will be no crazy 300bhp turbocharged engine under the hood as seen in the Mitsubishi Evolution; the Concept-RA is an environmentally-friendly diesel.
Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the Concept-RA of Mitsubishi produces 200bhp and 310lb/ft of pulling power channelled to all four wheels through the same Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system as the hotly-anticipated Evo X.
This should ensure brilliant grip with all the power being used for optimum effect.
Performance figures haven’t been released, but with a lightweight aluminium shell it should accelerate from 0-60mph in around seven seconds and have a top speed of 140mph.
It also gets the same semi-automatic gearbox as the Evo X – a first for the Japanese car maker.
But reports circulating in the media suggest there have been problems in the production of the twin clutch automated manual transmission, which have delayed production of the Evo X.
With no release date as yet, the Mitsubishi Concept-RA will be officially unveiled at January’s North American International Auto Show.
