These are the first pictures of the £710,000 Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss - an uncompromising supercar without a roof or windscreen.

The 650bhp supercharged speedster has been built to celebrate Mercedes' partnership with British motor racing legend, Stirling Moss, who also won the 1955 Mille Miglia – a 1,000 mile Italian road race – in an original 300SLR.

It also marks the final curtain for the current SLR, although Mercedes hasn't ruled out bringing the moniker back in the future.

The SLR Stirling Moss has a pair of wind deflectors just two centimetres high to protect the driver and passenger from airflow, while the two airscoops behind the seats also serve as roll-over bars.

The SLR Stirling Moss is also the fastest SLR yet, offering a top speed of 217mph – 11mph more than the standard SLR Roadster and 8mph more than the SLR 722. The 0-62mph dash can be completed in 3.5 seconds, identical to the 722 model, which to date has been the most sought-after.

Mercedes' engineers have cloaked the Stirling Moss entirely in carbon fibre to reduce weight. The roofless supercar can be secured by attaching a pair of tonneau covers over the passenger compartments.

The SLR Stirling Moss retains the standard car's Airbrake system, which automatically raises when braking from more than 75mph to provide extra stability and stopping power.

Just 75 will be built between June and December 2009, and Mercedes say they will be made available as a "very special thank you to the most loyal of SLR customers, for they are the only ones able to acquire a 'Stirling Moss'."
