C-Class coupe for under £20k
15 June 2005 Based on the next model in the range, the C180 Kompressor, the C160 carries a price tag of £19,495. This is £870 less than the C180 Kompressor, despite its identical trim and equipment. The only difference between the cars is that the 1.8-litre engine in the C160 has been detuned. The new Sports Coupe develops 122bhp, 21bhp less that the C180 Kompressor, and sprints to 60mph in 11.4sec, 1.7sec longer than the C180 Kompressor. A new range of engines for the C-Class compact executive has also been announced, including three petrol units and one diesel. All engines feature a V configuration for improved performance and fuel economy. The C230 saloon uses a new 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine, and replaces the old C230 Kompressor model. Producing 204bhp, the new engine is 12bhp more powerful than the one it replaces. Prices start at £25,565. The 3.0-litre V6 engine from the SLK 280 roadster is now available in the C280 saloon and estate models, and comes with an automatic gearbox as standard. The saloon model costs from £27,375 and the estate from £28,325. The C350 uses the 272bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine from the E-Class executive car. Performance is brisk, the C350 covering the 0-62mph dash in just 6.4secs before going on to a top speed 155mph, while average fuel consumption is 28.2mpg. The C320 CDI saloon and estate have a new V6 diesel engine, which develops 224bhp and returns an average fuel consumption of 37mpg. Both cars come with a Tiptronic automatic gearbox and cruise control as standard. The C350 costs from £33,250, and the C320 CDI from £31,020. All cars can be ordered from dealers now for delivery in the autumn. |
