German tuners have unleashed the world’s fastest luxury saloon – the 205mph Brabus Maybach 57 SV12 Biturbo.

The bonkers Brabus-built beast clocked up a record speed of 330.6km/h (205.2mph) around Volkswagen’s Nardo test track in Italy last week.

Powered by a 6.3-litre V12 engine, the Mercedes-owned tuning group upped the standard Maybach’s power by bolting two turbochargers onto its massive powerplant – taking the final figure to a dizzying 730bhp and a hefty 811 lbs/ft of pulling power.

The massive engine’s internals have been given a thorough reworking including a high-performance cooling system, stainless steel exhaust and remapped computer programming which still meets EURO IV emission limits.

The luxury two-tonne behemoth channels its power through the rear wheels via a “reinforced” five-speed automatic transmission, and rides on 15mm lowered air suspension.

And while the 200mph-plus sedan can carry four in absolute comfort, Brabus has upgraded the wheels and tyres as “enormous demands” are placed on the components at 205.2mph – special 21-inch Brabus forged light alloy wheels exclusively developed for the luxury limousine swell the wheel arches.

Those lucky enough to get inside the Brabus Maybach 57 can enjoy television screens mounted in the seats, a wireless keyboard and external USB ports making the limousine the fastest portable PC in the world.

But this is not the first time Brabus has pushed the boundaries on exceptionally fast saloon cars – in 2005 a lesser powered version of the Brabus Maybach 57 (640bhp) reached a top speed of 195mph.

And just last year the Brabus Rocket – based on the Mercedes CLS – reached a top speed of 227.2mph using the same 6.3-litre engine as the world record-breaking Maybach.
