New Lexus LS 600h on sale
|
02 October 2007 Lexus has officially launched the hybrid-powered flagship LS 600h into the UK market with prices starting from £81,400. The new LS features what the Japanese carmaker claims as 'the world's first full time hybrid V8 powertrain.' But don't be fooled by its V8 engine capacity. Although the car offers up plenty of performance - 0-62mph (100kph) in just 6.3 seconds - it returns 30.4mpg on the combined cycle. The Toyota-owned company has managed this by fusing a 5-litre petrol engine together with a high-output electric motor.
Buyers can also opt for the Rear Seat Relaxation Pack (RSRP) which gives the left hand rear seat an ottoman leg and thigh rest, seat cushion airbag and variable massage function, as we found out during our test drive of the LS 600h in Berlin. The RSRP also comes with an independent DVD system and a more advanced climate control system that uses body sensors to regulate the cabin temperature. The in-car entertainment package includes a 19-speaker Mark Levinson hi-fi with six-disc DVD autochanger and a nine-inch ceiling mounted screen for rear seat passengers. Two models can be specified - the LS 600h and the LS 600h L (long wheel base). Prices for the LS 600h L with Rear Seat Relaxation Package start at £88,000.
