Here’s a warning to any Charlie Croker wannabes planning a modern day Italian Job – the police will come after you in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

Lamborghini has presented the Italian State Police with this ‘Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia’ – a one-off fully liveried supercar.

The LP560-4 Polizia is replacing the force’s standard Gallardo which is going into retirement after four years and 87,000 miles of patrolling the nation’s autostradas.

Under the hood of the LP560-5 remains the 5.2-litre V10 engine which develops 560bhp and enables a top speed of 203mph.

But Lamborghini has customised the interior to give it many of the capabilities of a standard police car, fitting the following:

• A Proof Video Data System which calculates the speed of the car being pursued
• A specialised fridge for transporting donor organs
• A defibrillator used to restore a normal heart rhythm to patients by delivering an electrical shock
• Number plate recognition tool
• Police radio
• Gun holster

The 30 police officers who will be driving the Gallardo LP560-4 have been given special driver training by Lamborghini test drivers and additional lessons in how to use the medical equipment.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, many regard the Gallardo LP560-4 as the best ever all-round Lamborghini thanks to its driveability, performance, looks and improved carbon emissions.

The standard Gallardo LP560-4 has an on-the-road price of £147,000, but despite the financial crisis some models are commanding a price of more than £180,000.
