An ultra-rare 1991 Jaguar Lister Le Mans XJS capable of 200mph is for sale on Auto Trader.

This red XJS was built in a relationship between British sports car companies Jaguar and Lister with only 35 ever manufactured.

Out went the standard 5.3-litre V12 engine to be replaced with a 7-litre V12 – developing 496bhp and 500lb/ft of pulling power.

This makes it more powerful than the 478bhp Ferrari F40 and 469bhp RUF Yellowbird from the late 1980s which both held the record for the world's fastest production car.

This grunt makes it capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and hitting 200mph.

But while the F40 and Yellowbird could hit 201mph and 211mph respectively, the Lister Le Mans XJS weighed 1.8 tonnes – 700kg MORE than the F40, making the performance even more spectacular.

The bright red Jaguar Lister Le Mans XJS has huge flared wheel arches which house the 17-inch alloy wheels while the rear is dominated by a spoiler, twin exhausts and Lister badging.

Inside, the Jag appears to be in flawless condition, with beautiful leather seats and a truly enormous in-car phone.

A standard 5.3-litre Jaguar XJS cost £38,000 back in 1991, but Lister Le Mans version cost three times that much, setting the first owner back £120,000.

And this model has hardly been used – covering just 13,000 miles in 17 years with a full service history.

When it was launched, the Jaguar Lister Le Mans XJS was the fastest ever road-legal Jaguar and was only superseded by the 1992 Jaguar XJ220 which was capable of 213mph.

And 17 years after its release it is still second on the list of fastest production Jaguars.

On the market today, a Ferrari F40 will set you back £200,000 with a RUF costing £90,000.

But you can get your hands on this 200mph supercar from Jersey-based dealer Airport Car Centre for a credit-crunch busting £39,995.
