“Yes – I’ll take five please. In black”.
Ok – so we’re not sure if the businessmen surrounding the all new Jag XJ said that, but they’re probably thinking it.
Step aside puny earth super-saloons – the Big Cat has pounced.
Yes, this is the all-new Jaguar XJ which has just made its full
Salon Prive organisers David and Andrew Bagley scored a major coup by getting the Big Cat to purr on the lawns of the exclusive Hurlingham Club in Putney.
Because this Jag is something special – it will come with a range of engines including a 3-litre V6 diesel which returns 40.1mpg and a naturally aspirated 5-litre V8.
And if you want to go just that little bit quicker, there’s also a supercharged 5-litre V8 producing 470bhp.

The XJ gets a 520 litre boot and the long-wheelbase models give rear-seat passengers an extra 125mm of legroom.
Its new glass roof also gives the car a “lower, more streamlined roofline.”
Jaguar’s managing director Mike O'Driscoll said: “These are truly exciting times for Jaguar. The new XJ is truly beautiful, exhilarating to drive, and with its bold, enlightened approach to design, it meets the challenges of our fast-changing world.
“It re-imagines the ultimate sporting luxury car.”
It also re-imagines rear-end design. Jaguar design guru Ian Callum said of the controversial rear light cluster: “Unusual and very deliberate taillights sat above the swage line are there because we can. It’s great to do something new and fresh.”
We think the new Jag looks fantastic. Prices range from £52,000 to £88,000, and Jaguar is now taking orders for delivery in 2010.
