Stretched XJ is even roomier
08 April 2004 The XJ's wheelbase has been increased by 125mm in the stretched model, with all the extra space going to rear passengers. It is also slightly taller to provide more headroom. However, because the car is made of aluminium the longer car weighs only 24kg more than the standard model, so performance, economy and emissions are unaffected. The stretched XJ goes on UK sale this autumn, initially only in Super V8 form with a 400bhp supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine. It will be offered to US buyers with a 300bhp V8, and Jaguar could offer this in right-hand-drive long-wheelbase form if demand exists. Stretched models get a number of features not available on the standard XJ, including electric adjustment of the rear bench, folding tables on the front seat backs and four-zone climate control. Jaguar has not confirmed prices, but says the Super V8 L will considerably undercut' the BMW 760iL and Mercedes S600 Limousine. |
