Hot oil treatment for Jag S-type
06 June 2003 The British company has promised that the new 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine bound for the S-type will set new performance standards in its class. It is capable of producing 205bhp and 325lb ft of pulling power, and Jaguar claims the diesel S-type will be faster than its rivals. It's expected to manage the 0-60mph sprint in under seven seconds and have a top speed in excess of 150mph. No details on carbon dioxide emissions or fuel consumption have been released, although Jaguar says the diesel S-type would be 'up with the class leaders'. That means it will have to return around 40mpg and fit into the 23% company car tax band to match its BMW 530d and Mercedes E270 CDi rivals. The new engine has been developed jointly by Jaguar's owner Ford with Peugeot and Citroen. All three manufacturers will eventually include the new engine in their model line-ups. Jaguar has not said whether the X-type will be offered with the 2.7 V6 turbodiesel, but it will get a new 2.0-litre diesel engine by the end of this year. Look out for our full report on the new diesel X-type later this month. |
