Jaguar has apologised for offending customers with its XKR advertising campaign.

The company sent out anonymous sexually suggestive' letters asking customers what might drive them wild'.

Sent out on Valentine's Day, the notes read: Could it be the touch of skin on your fingertips? A long, honed body? Firm sensuous curves?' Letters sent to female customers were signed Ian Major, while those sent to men were from Elizabeth Jones.

The Advertising Standards Authority upheld 37 separate complaints about the campaign, saying Jaguar had not made it clear that the letters were marketing material.

Some customers felt the letters implied they were having an affair, others thought they were being stalked.

Jaguar has apologised for the adverts and said they were meant to be humorous. It said it wouldn't use such tactics again.
