Daimler, one of the oldest names in UK motoring, will be revived by Jaguar this November with the arrival of the all-new Super Eight.

It is the first Daimler for seven years, and is billed as the most advanced model ever offered by the marque.

The Super Eight will feature the same lightweight aluminium body of the stretched Jaguar XJ luxury car on which it is based, and be powered by that car's familiar 400bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine matched to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

That launches the Super Eight to 60mph in just 5.0sec and on to a limited speed of 155mph.

Besides the 'swirling D' Daimler badge on grille, boot release and headrests, the Super Eight is distinguishable from the XJ by extra chrome on the door mirrors and around the rear lights, and the trademark fluted radiator grille.

The limousine's luxurious four-seat cabin treats passengers with fine leather upholstery and burr walnut trim with boxwood inlays. There's also a full complement of equipment, including voice-activated four-zone climate control, a television and electrically adjustable rear seats with folding work tables.

Options include additional screens for rear passengers to watch television or play video games, and armour plating.

A long-wheelbase XJ with the same 400bhp engine costs from £74,995, so expect Daimler prices to start north of £80k.
