Diesel Jaguar cleanest yet
13 June 2005 The Euro IV-compliant diesel is available to order now, six months ahead of the date by which all new diesel cars must meet the strict new emissions regulations. The new 2.7-litre diesel cuts carbon dioxide emissions from 189g/km to 179g/km, resulting in a 22% company car tax liability compared with a 27% liability for the Euro III car. Current manual models have a combined fuel consumption figure of around 39mpg. The new Euro IV diesel has marginally improved on that figure to return 41.5mpg. However, both the fuel consumption figure of 36mpg and carbon dioxide output of 208g/km stay the same for the 2.7 automatic. Nevertheless, Jaguar assures company car drivers that they still stand to save money because, thanks to the new engine's Euro IV compliance, the 3% diesel surcharge will be waived, putting the car into the lower company car tax band of 28%. From next January, however, every new diesel sold will attract the 3% surcharge, even if it meets Euro IV standards. The 2.7 Euro IV diesel S-type costs £900 more than the currently available Euro III car, starting from £28,895 on the road. From next month it replaces the Euro III car altogether. |
