Gear fault prompts Jaguar recall
19 April 2004 The recall affects 68,000 XJs, XKs and S-types worldwide, all built before June 2003, and includes just over 14,000 cars in the UK. It has been found that where the transmission fluid has dropped to very low levels, the cars could slip into reverse gear by accident. However, a Jaguar spokesman said that before a car slipped into reverse, the driver would already have been made aware of the problem by a dashboard warning. He added that there had been only three incidents of reverse gear being selected mistakenly, and that there had been no crashes or injuries as a result. Owners of affected cars are already being contacted by Jaguar, and the remedial work, which involves reprogramming of the automatic transmission software, takes about an hour. |
