Honda will send owners of its all-new CR-V a sticker to defend themselves against anti-4x4 campaigners.

The company says the sticker, and accompanying letter with some helpful 4x4 facts, is in response to calls from owners for help in explaining why their cars are being unfairly targeted.

Honda environment manager John Kingston said: 'The 'one size fits all' approach of anti-4x4 protestors is confusing. Some customers have expressed their concerns and frustration about being criticised for driving a CR-V.'

The letter to owners explains that the CR-V isn't necessarily dirtier than other cars and is cleaner than many estates, hatchbacks, MPVs and a Mini Cooper S.

It also points out that the CR-V takes up no more roadspace than a Ford Mondeo (and less than a BMW 5 Series), and has a three-star Euro NCAP pedestrian safety rating. That puts it in the top 10% of pedestrian-friendly cars on the road.
