Honda Legend reborn
27 October 2005 The previous model went off sale nearly two years ago, but its successor will roll into showrooms in July 2006 costing around £34,000. Only one model will be sold in the UK, powered by a 296bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, and fitted with four-wheel drive. Economy or emissions statistics haven't been published yet, but we do know that no diesel option will be offered. This could limit its appeal to company car drivers, who crave low carbon dioxide emissions to cut their tax bills. Generous standard equipment will include leather upholstery, climate control and electrically powered everything. The new Legend will also be bristling with safety technology, including a system that self-steers to keep the car in the middle of its lane, an auto-brake function in the event of a front impact, plus a pop-up bonnet to protect pedestrians. Honda has limited ambitions for the Legend, predicting 400 sales next year, but in its first full year on sale it anticipates double that. To put that in perspective, last year Mercedes sold 18,000 E-Classes. |
