Diesel choice for FR-V
17 May 2005 Using the same impressive engine as the Accord saloon and CR-V off-roader, the diesel FR-V is likely to cost about £1500 more than the equivalent 2.0-litre petrol. This means a price tag of around £17,200 for the SE and £17,900 on the Sport variant. The 138bhp diesel engine provides better performance than the 150bhp petrol version. Matched to a six-speed manual gearbox, the diesel is 0.4sec quicker in the sprint to 60mph at 10.1sec. In-gear acceleration is also better, which should make overtaking easier. Combined fuel consumption is 44.8mpg, an 11.2mpg improvement over the petrol version, which should save owners around £300 in fuel for every 12,000 miles travelled. That means they will need to cover around 60,000 miles to recoup the extra purchase price of the diesel. Company drivers should also pay slightly less for the diesel version. For entry-level SE trim, monthly tax bills rise from around £62 a month for a lower-rate taxpayer this year to £72 in 2006. The petrol-engined equivalent costs £74 this year and next. Specification is unchanged from petrol models, with two rows of three sliding and reclining seats, front, side and curtain airbags, remote central locking, an alarm, climate control, electric windows and mirrors and a CD player with steering wheel-mounted controls as standard on both models. |
