Honda reins in Type-R versions
30 September 2003 UK bosses were keen to sell an Accord Type-R and had said a racy version of the saloon and estate would be easy to engineer. But despite the appearance of a sporty Accord at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, head of global design and development Tomoyuki Sugiyama said sales would not be strong enough to justify putting it into production. Sugiyama also denied speculation that a Type-R version of the Jazz supermini was in development. A revised version of the Civic Type-R reaches showrooms in January priced at £16,000. Thanks to a new clutch and flywheel assembly, the updated model is 0.2sec faster from 0-60mph than its predecessor, with a time of 6.6sec. |
